A continuation of our Entry Page. That doesn't mean that anything on this page is less important than items on the first page. It just means that there isn't room for everything on page one so I have to decide what goes where.
OK.. So you think I got it wrong? Then let me know what arrangement YOU would like.

History in the Making

Masonic Research is much more than the history of the Craft. Each Lodge has its own history and it is important that someone should make themselves responsible for recording it, People have short memories and when a Brother has passed on, his knowledge and recollections are lost for ever unless someone records them. Photographs, audio and video tapes are good records although it is very important to ensure that whatever is recorded should be kept in the best possible condition and if necessary, re-recorded using more modern techniques such as DVD. All raw records - meeting minutes, summonses etc should be kept and stored carefully in dry conditions to enable future historians to access the information available. The most insignificant snapshot of say a Lodge barbecue or picnic is a window on history in another 100 years.

No matter how "secret" details of an individual Lodge's rituals may be, it is very important that there should be a permanent record held somewhere. We could really do without a repeat of something along the lines of the Haughfoot Fragment, however romantic that story may be. And we certainly don't want to lose anything else. There are modern "exposures" such as Walton Hannah's 'Darkness Visible'. Do we want our descendants in say another 300 years or so to have to rely on that for information on the 21st century Craft as we have to rely on Prichard's 'Masonry Dissected' for information on the 18th century?
